Transport and logistics operators, delivery networks, rental and leasing companies, and any business with enough vehicles that a spreadsheet has stopped being the truth. Usually the trigger is one of three things: a client asking for reports you cannot produce, per-vehicle subscription fees that have quietly grown, or the discovery that nobody knows what a particular vehicle costs to run.
The part most fleet software gets wrong
Knowing where a vehicle is turns out to be the cheap, solved half of the problem. A dozen products do it well for a few hundred rupees a month.
The expensive half is everything the map does not show: whether the permit expires next week, whether that fuel entry matches the distance the vehicle actually covered, which route loses money every time you run it, and which driver's trips end in damage claims.

We say buy more often than an agency is supposed to. If a product covers your operation, the subscription costs less than the engineering you would spend replacing it, and we will tell you so on the first call.
Working with the hardware you already have
Almost every fleet arrives with devices already fitted, from more than one vendor, bought at different times. That is normal and it is not a problem.
Most trackers push position and telemetry to a server over TCP using a small number of documented protocols, and many vendors expose an API on top. We read from what you have, normalise it into one shape, and keep the map and reports honest across mixed hardware. If some vehicles have no device at all, the driver app can cover them until they do.
The compliance India adds
Fleet software built for another market misses the paperwork that actually causes trouble here:
- Vehicle documents with real deadlines. Insurance, PUC, fitness certificate and national or state permits, each with its own expiry and its own cost when it lapses at a checkpoint.
- Driver licence and badge validity, tracked per driver rather than remembered by a supervisor.
- AIS-140 devices, which commercial and public transport vehicles are required to run, and whose data feed is what everything else is built on.
- FASTag and tolls, reconciled against trips so a toll lands on the job that incurred it instead of a monthly lump nobody can allocate.
- E-way bills for goods movements above the GST threshold, captured or generated with the trip depending on how your billing runs.
Where AI actually saves money here
Three additions justify themselves in fleet operations. Route optimisation, which sequences a day of stops against live traffic, delivery windows and vehicle capacity, and shows up as more drops on the same diesel. Predictive maintenance, which flags the vehicle likely to need attention from its telemetry and service history, because a highway breakdown costs several times a scheduled workshop visit. And an operations agent that chases expiring documents and questions the fuel entry that does not match the distance.
